This safe and economical cleaner from Zojirushi removes lime, scale and mineral deposit build-up from electric dispensing pots, air pots and carafes. A clean pot means proper water temperature and a fresh clean taste for beverages! This cleaner will extend the life of your appliance by keeping it clean internally! Not for use on aluminum. This item is safe to pour down the sink and will not harm plumbing or septic systems, is non-toxic and biodegradable. Sold in single packs of 1 ounce. For optimal results we recommend using 1 pack for each liter of capacity of the item being cleaned (example: a 4 -Liter capacity pot will need 4 packets of cleaner). You should clean the pot or appliance once a year if using bottled or filtered water or every 6 months for tap water.

This product is almost 100% Citric acid, however for the same price here on Amazon you can buy almost 10 times as much if you buy food grade (Citric acid is used for lots of things including cooking.)Two tablespoons are about the right amount for each cleaning cycle.Citric Acid - 1 lb., (Frontier)Citric Acid, priced per poundCitric Acid 4 Lb tubCitric Acid (Lemon Salt) 5 Pounds BulkCitric Acid 1 Lb tubOn the other hand, white vinegar dissolves all the lime, scale, etc. It's cheap, easy, just a little stinky and takes a little longer.This is how we've been cleaning our Zojirushi electric pots for the past 20 years.1) Heat up the vinegar to ~150f or so (in the dispensing pot or separately) then pour in. I use a 4 cup pyrex cup in the microwave.1.5 (Optional)I add a large mason jar in the middle to displace the vinegar so I get a higher level with less vinegar (Think of how sitting in a bathtub causes the water to rise)2) Leave overnight3) Rinse out thoroughly.
