“The auto shutoff sometimes fails however as the carafe is transparent it is usually obvious when it is boiling and picking it up shuts it off. ”

I purchased this product for 2 reasons:1. It was BPA free and2. I absolutely loved the designI have done a lot of research on this type of kettles and I couldn't find the one that met my criteria and had a great design. When I finally found this one, it seemed like it was going to be the one: modern and cool stainless steel design, BPA free and efficient. Unfortunately the quality was not there. The kettle I got was not BPA free because part of the silicone where the glass meets the stainless plate at the bottom was exposed. I have not noticed it immediately but when I boiled the water in it, I smelled it. It seemed that silicone on one half of the perimeter of the metal plate was below the plate, as I think it should be and part was exposed in contact with water. I was very disappointed, because it is a new design and I would expect a better quality control. Unfortunately, I returned it. Very disappointing. I gave it 2 stars for design.
